hospital-ity

hospitality is not about showroom-ready homes and photogenic food.  those things are wonderful, but i note the root word is 'hospital' which gives me the nudge to show up and be shown up for just as we are.

this tells me it's hospitality, then, to listen or be listened to in the grocery store if we are having a frustrated moment.  it's hospitality not to take something personally if a clerk or cashier is cranky but rather to be curious as to what's going on beneath the surface. true hospitality would be patient i think when other people's plans put moments of our day into a tailspin.  things like this.

father gregory boyle writes, "the longing of the mystic is to be at home with yourself and then put the welcome mat out so that others find a home in you."

so much territory to explore here!
