poetry days
when my dear friend and i block off an entire day to nosh, write, and read poetry out loud, magic happens (as well as much laughter). on our most recent soul nourishing day, we chose a quote from this book as our poetry prompt.
here's my response...
"stones propose another sense of time"--kathleen jamie
i
tracing
fissures, silent ever-present cut from and smoothed by endless
patient battering, we would cry out too if we held that much witness
skip us across the surface waters if you can (built up, eroded, but never
destroyed) entire crevasses in your palm because history will always leave a trace
ii
returning
listen to the stars, touch this ground
there is so much distance between you and primal
remove your shoes, view monoliths from space, these
stones amassing time by sun's exacting harvest to the
month and day, essential
iii
outliving
magma's magnetic core coursing through our veins
minerality in a thousand colors, faces drawn to cairns
along the path, entire fields of tree roots fed by ancient
blood saying we were here, we were here and so to see you
is to let you go, sacred ground regathered
