epistolary pals

this week my epistolary friend surprised me with a tiny matchbox toy version of a US mail truck!

(imagine my delight that you can back it up and let go, sending it zooming forward and yes, i'm that easily made glad)

it came on the heels of hearing my 96-year-old friend had passed away.  this lady and i met when i was about ten and she never missed sending a card in the mail for my birthday and christmas for over forty-one years!

she lived a full life and is better off now, methinks, but i'm going to miss those notes in the mail nonetheless.  i went out and bought even more stamps than usual, determined to be a faithful correspondent like her and the friend who gifted me the mini truck.
