the pebble toad rollover

my poet friend invited me to literary arts to hear poet aimee nezhukumatathil speak.  after reading her book world of wonders: in praise of fireflies, whalesharks, and other astonishments, i knew we were in for a treat.

aimee is a bundle of joy, wonder, curiosity, and love of learning for its own sake.  what i didn't expect, however, is that a video about a frog and what she had to say about it would make me cry!

pebble toad rollover (if you watch this 1:44 second nature video, what i'm about to say will make more sense.) essentially, this tiny frog can't hop.  but its superpower is turning itself into essentially a rubber ball and falling away from danger.  not only is this tactic surprising to predators but lands the frog in safety from which it can begin its ascent again.

aimee said because of this kind of resilience, this little frog sees more vistas and climbs to the sunshine time and time again.

i don't know about you, but i really identified with this little creature.  what if we learned to fall really well?  what if we became resilient like a rubber ball and bounced, not just back, but down to safety?  what if we took enemies by surprise by returning again and again to the top of the mountain vistas?
