out painting in the field

not only did we get to host the annual willamette valley lavender festival in person this past weekend, but today i had the privilege of hosting nine lovely people for a watercolor workshop in the lavender field!

all the words...magical, ethereal, relaxing...all true, but all fall short.  amid the healing hum of bees happily gathering on over 3,000 lavender plants (not to worry, i told the guests, they could not be less interested in us) we learned techniques and tips about painting and spread out among the rows.

their paintings each turned out unique and everyone enjoyed both a boost in creative confidence and a special lavender syrup-flavored italian soda.

when the class was over many of us lingered to sip in the shade and get to know one another, none of us wanted to leave!

there are still lavender wreath classes available by going to wayward winds lavender and the farm is open 10-5 daily the entire month of july.

at the start of the festival i was explaining to people in line at our booth that we had culinary, personal care, and household lavender.  after two days of a near constant line at the register, i noticed i shortened this to, "in, on, or around you, we've got it!"

i have made a promise to myself to be working for myself connecting others and leading workshops and retreats by the time i'm 50.  you heard it here, folks, feel free to keep me accountable and ask me how it's going.  some parts i can be intentional about (saving, aligning finances, networking) while other things, like following a silver thread, will be revealed in their own good time.

but i enjoy the entire process.  while shopping for supplies and prepping the art kits, i say aloud, "the retreat starts now" and vow never to rush while getting ready, as i believe the spirit and tone of preparation comes through to the guests.  creating and holding a relaxing, positively energized, and supportive space with others is something i savor and look forward to doing more of.
