a feast for the senses
through what i can only describe as a fantastic and magical string of connections, i found myself seated at the joel palmer house restaurant, fulfilling a bucket-list dream of dining there.
famous for all things truffle, this fine dining establishment is centered in the heart of downtown dayton, oregon in an historic home owned and run by four generations.
now, anyone can go out to a nice meal.
what made this special was a connection with levi seed, lead sommelier when he came into the winery to buy cases of our dry and sweet vermouth for use in their cocktails. our winemaker julia happened to be available to give them a barrel tasting in the cellar.
next thing i knew, levi was on the cover of oregon wine press and i learned his amazing story of surviving childhood cancer not once, but three times! you can read his story here.
i planned to take two gift bottles to him with a card from our winery thanking him for all the ways he is using his life experience to better others and just didn't get around to it. when i mentioned this to julia, she immediately booked a table for four.
we chose the 10-course chef's menu because we all like surprises and it was one surprise and delight after another. our reservation was at 8:30 pm, so at 12:30 in the morning we found ourselves getting a kitchen and cellar tour with the chef to round out an already spectacular experience.
in levi's words, "life is too short not to do what makes you happy...and if you can help others along the way, so much the better."
cheers to that!
