nature's idylls
it's with misty eyes i re-read "anne of green gables". for one, it's just a sweet story, and for two, it's so much like where i call home.
after a time, you start knowing specific birds and creatures. you live in a place long enough, you move from speaking in general terms about nature to specific terms. like how anne names the lanes and lakes and trees, which is really l.m. montgomery describing the idylls of prince edward island.
for example, imagine our delight when these robins choose to build again in the front porch light, laying four eggs!
or that i now recognize, and have names for, the heron that flies over at regular intervals, the bunny that comes out from the blackberry vines to nibble grass, the nuthatch who comes to the bird feeder, and the scrub jay who sits on the power line above the mailboxes.
what have you noticed about this spring?
