connection, plant-style

i've noticed lately that the plants both on my office desk and at home reach for one another.  that is, different types sending shoots and leaves curling toward another as if they want to be together.  it makes me wonder if i'm not doing them a kind of disservice by keeping them in separate pots for my benefit.  in the jungle, they'd just grow rooted happily side by side.

i've also developed a looser style of gardening outside in which i allow them to shade and support one another however they want to.  the results have been supported vines and increased flower and fruit.

it's as if there's a natural force of connection at work.  i'd like to think this dwells deep within all beings, that our human species, too, naturally wants to reach out for reciprocal support.

what do you think or notice about this type of plant 'intelligence'?
