baby birds
this is one of my favorite times of year in the pacific northwest; so much so that i rearranged my bedroom so that my bed is right next to the west-facing window. this way birdsong is the last thing (owls) i hear before nodding off and first thing (songbirds) i hear upon waking.
this pair of geese kept flying over each morning, honking as they went. at first i was concerned, because geese aren't usually in pairs unless one is sick (another will drop out of formation to care for it until it either dies or recovers to rejoin the flock--take empathy notes from the animal world!) OR, happily in this case, it's nesting season.
en route to the farm store to pick up new baby chicks, i saw this pair with their new goslings crossing the road to safety. now when they fly over honking in the mornings, i know it's as proud new parents!
