emotional voice
reading the latest copy of "breathe" magazine, i find an article on emotional voice: words to describe less commonly felt emotions as collected from different cultures or as created by john koenig and collected in his book "the dictionary of obscure sorrows".
here's some of my favorites...
eirene: a greek word that indicates peace, wholeness or oneness, plus a sense of quiet or rest
midding: the tranquil pleasure of being near a gathering but not quite in it--feeling blissfully invisible yet still fully included (john koenig)
uitwaaien: an idiomatic dutch phrase encapsulating the revitalising effects of taking a walk in the wind
by naming our obscure feelings, we have company in our more private moments.
what word would you make up or combine to describe a feeling you've had recently?
