five cents worth
at the gym last week, i couldn't help noticing a theme of conversation...both in the locker room and workout areas people (different ones!) were complaining about the same thing: the five cent charge for grocery bags.
after several minutes of listening to this i made a mental note about practicing gratitude as a discipline not only for the type of person i want to become but as a social boost in positivity. i came up with a list of small but hopefully meaningful ideas i'd like to practice in this regard going into 2020.
1. tempted to complain? ask yourself "am i willing to think up and be part of a solution?" if not, best to live with it and stay quiet about it. if so, proceed to problem solve and be proactive.
2. annoyed? use the negative perception to start a good habit (i used to forget my own grocery bags and now i put them at the bottom of the stairs or in my car so as to be market ready).
3. receive good customer service? sometime before the end of that day go online and give the business a positive review.
4. part of a team or company? drop postcards in the mail thanking clients for their business or leave an anonymous thank you note on a staff member's desk.
5. someone complaining to you? ask them what else you can do for them or invite them to imagine with you what their best case scenario might be.
small things, perhaps, but an equal and opposite reaction with forward momentum. these are my five cents worth; what ideas do you have for positive vibes in 2020?
