refuge

mark time by geese
overhead and minutes
take flight; to hear them
calling out in morning mist,
my heart's migration

how long i have stood in boots
here and amazed i do not know
only to take them off for
this is holy ground and i the
creature's humble guest

our hour chimes safety
for these deer, they do not
flee at my approach
but continue grazing, invite
me to share their space in

peace.
