love is where you find it

i have this poster in my classroom, a gift years ago from a dear friend, entitled "love is where you find it".

yesterday one of the second grade students came up to my classroom with a friend before school.  i could see she was holding something. 

"i want to show you something i found outside yesterday," she said. "it's a heart rock!  people said 'it's not a big deal' or that i should throw it away, but i remembered the poster in your room and bringed it to you because i thought you would understand."

this little old soul had no idea i've been collecting heart-shaped stones for well over twenty years now.  so it was fun to talk about finding them, keeping some, giving others away...that it is a big deal to look for love.  and the more we look, the more we find!

"keep it", i said, "let it be a reminder of how much God loves you!" and so she did.
