biophony

i learned not one, but THREE new words this week!  quelle joie!

biophony:  sounds produced by living creatures, ex:  birdsong, crickets chirping, whale clicks

geophony:  non-biological nature sounds, ex:  waves crashing, babbling stream, wind in the trees

anthrophony:  produced by human activity, ex: music and song (and also chaotic machinery, etc.)

i've always just distinguished between natural vs. manmade, so this was fun to learn that nature has two categories of her own.

and i've almost always typified human sounds in the negative (chainsaws, blaring music) that tend to interrupt the harmonies of nature, so it's good to remember that humans can make beautiful noise when we choose to.

when we're silent we can hear the lifeblood of all creation hum.
