the voice of poetry

i chanced to meet a new-to-me poet today. one who was english poet laureate from 1930-1967.

by way of choosing an old vinyl record and putting it on, i heard john masefield (1878-1967) reading his own works.  side 1 was especially poignant to many situations from this month.

here's an introduction if you have yet to meet his works:   john masefield

it reminds me of getting to hear mary oliver read her own poems while she was alive.  there's something about their voice that brings the poem alive in special ways.

who have you gotten to hear read their own poetry, either still living or not?
