robins and quail and eggs, oh my!

both of today's posts have to do with birds!

the first is the baby robin nest in the garden of the winery where i work.  even though i know how quickly they fledge, i am still in awe of how fast they grow.  it seems you almost watch them develop in time-lapse fashion, even changing so much from one morning to evening.

tonight i came around the corner just in time to see the last one fly from the nest.  proud mama and papa stayed in the area giving chirps of guidance to their small family of winged miracles.

and i've always wanted to try quail eggs, so when i saw a local farm selling them at our market, i bought a dozen for six dollars.  the box fit in my one hand!

they are so stunningly beautiful i almost don't want to eat them.  and i suppose that it will take at least all 12 of them to make a small omelet.  maybe try a few gently boiled.  perhaps first i should arrange them in a still life and make a watercolor of them!
