braiding sweetgrass

reading this book, "braiding sweetgrass:  indigenous wisdom, scientific knowledge, and the teachings of plants" by robin wall kimmerer is giving me so much life right now!

i first heard her on the "on being" podcast and, if you prefer listening, she has a very soothing and gentle voice.

her wisdom, insights, and humor are like a fresh breeze through the tall grasses she writes about with such affection.

i started dog-earing pages to share and stopped, as it would mean i was dog-earing every single page!

have also ordered her book "gathering moss" and look forward to that.

i highly recommend "braiding sweetgrass" to nourish you, heart and soul.  what have you read lately that is infusing you with joy or fresh perspective?

  1. Oooh! You got the other one too! Wonderful! I’m reading the Dark Night of the Soul by Gerald May. Well timed with what is happening internally and in our culture!

  3. I've been reading "Braiding Sweetgrass," too! :D Been doing so for months, since each chapter is pretty self-contained. And yes, it's sooo good! I just started reading "The Will of the People: The Revolutionary Birth of America" by T.H. Breen. And not too long ago, finished "Fried Green Tomatoes at The Whistle Stop Cafe" by Fannie Flagg. On the list next: The U.S.A. Trilogy by John Dos Passos. These all feel like forms of solidarity with forbears.

    1. I'm so glad you are enjoying Kimmerer's work so much as well and thanks for sharing the other books you are enjoying! One can never have too big of a book pile! Solidarity is such an important concept right now as well.
