adventure is out there
if you're restless for adventure like i am, why not camp out in your own backyard? (admittedly, i do have perhaps the best camp site in the northwest) but you don't have to live in a state park setting to have a great time!
my packing list: gourmet food & drink, national geographic guide to birds, deck of cards, lots of firewood, sense of humor & ability to enjoy my own company (no phone or need to post-as-we-go on social media; remember the days when we did things for the sake of them and enjoyed the moment?)
even though we have a gorgeous stainless steel grill 10 feet away, i pretended i was 'in the wilderness' and cooked all of my food over the open fire; wood smoke just tastes better. i waited for sunset by playing cards with myself (i won, imagine that) and then roasted marshmallows just how i like them (roasting is a bit of a misnomer, i like mine burned to a crisp)
i was fortunate to see an amazingly bright shooting star so i made a wish before i cozied into my tent for the night. lulled to sleep by crickets, my morning alarm was nuanced notes of natural wildlife that i don't always pick up on through the windows of my loft.
and you know what? it satisfied that need to book a room, drive and go somewhere else, at least for now! with some imagination and creativity a staycation really can be an enjoyable way to go.
have you had a staycation you really enjoyed? what would be your ideal way of traveling in place?
