how things receive their names

have you ever wondered how German pancakes came to be called Dutch Baby pancakes? this was culturally confusing to me until i learned the dish was popularized in the first half of the 1900's by Manca's Cafe in Seattle, Washington. the story claims the owner's daughter couldn't pronounce the German word Deutsch, so it came out sounding like Dutch.

delicious either way, "a rose by any other name" and all that, but i thought you should know.  it makes me wonder what other words and phrases are the result of pronunciation, mistakes, or general confusion?
