driving past milkweed
for mk
it is during these drives i learn
about harvesting saffron, dried threads
the color of Buddhist monk robes and
prized as spun gold
or the resurgence of monarch
larvae's sole host: this resilient
and deeply-rooted perennial of milky
sap and wind-dispersed silk
these and other seeds spun and
freely proliferated by a wildly astute
mind generous as nature herself
before the butterflies
return
