epiphany
i am reminded that holidays are/can be seasons, not just days.
they can be stretched out entirely like taffy and savored as such. instead of a frenzied build-up with a cliff-like drop off, why not a slow and steady delight at the pace of enjoyment? a switchback of celebration on the calendar's path.
Epiphany follows Christmas and lasts into spring.
a taper candle here, a breath prayer there. gifts given and received over the course of weeks. anticipated feasts spread out, punctuating the course of very ordinary meals.
contented warm spots mid-winter, sustainable joy.
