holy disappointment

while cleaning i found an old journal from a seminar years ago.  it opened to a page of notes that read, "longing resides beneath every holy disappointment.  excavate that and you've struck gold" which reminds me of the proverb, "hope deferred makes the heart sick, but longing fulfilled is a tree of life."

i had forgotten that disappointment can be holy.

there are different types of disappointment, to be sure.  some come about because of unspoken or unrealistic expectations. but others are designed to be bigger than we are and seem worth investigating to mine for their hidden treasures.

discerning which type is which seems key here, to either let it go or pick up a shovel and start digging!
