anagama
i get to visit an anagama kiln with a friend who is doing ceramics!
anagama is a traditional japanese wood-burning kiln used to make pottery. the word means "cave kiln" or "tunnel kiln".
they've been adding wood all week (it can take up to 10 cords) and while we're on their night shift the flames will be reaching to the sky.
it's a bit of a risk in that an artist doesn't always know if their pieces will survive and if so, how dark or light they will be.
so here's hoping for the best, plus a grand adventure will be had by all.
